Who doesn’t love Pizza? I love it, and there’s nothing better than making it at home. But when you can make your own pizza dough it’s even better. It’s as relaxing as it comes, and you have a sense of pride at the end of the pizza-making process.
If you have kids, it’s even better because one thing I’ve noticed is the more involved they are, the more likely they are to eat the food.
This pizza recipe is so simple you won’t believe the results. It takes no time, and it makes enough for you to host a dinner party of 9 people. Or you could freeze it for a later date. I love batch cooking. I love making it in advance and I love knowing that it is something that can get me off the hook anytime I please.
Here’s my Youtube Tutorial on how to make pizza dough
Pizza Dough Recipe
1KG of strong flower
One tablespoon of salt
650 ml of warm water
14g instant dried yeast
Four tablespoons of olive oil (extra virgin if you have it)
One tablespoon of caster sugar
How to make this
Sieve the flour and salt on a clean surface or in a large bowl. Make sure they’re well mixed.
In a separate jug, add your yeast, sugar, olive oil to the lukewarm water and mix well. Leave the yeast mixture to stand for about 5 minutes.
Make a well in the centre of the flour and gently add in the yeast mixture little by little.
Combine the flour and the yeast mixture. Knead until your dough is smooth, and there’s no dough left at the side of the bowl or stuck to the counter. Add flour as needed.
Place the dough in lightly-floured bowl. Place a warm tea towel over the bowl.
Then put in your hot press or somewhere warm for three to four hours. This should be enough for the yeast to really do its work, and it should double in size.
If it hasn’t doubled size, put it back in the hot press or put it in a warmer place so the yeast can activate.
When it has has doubled, take your dough and place it on to a floured surface. Then, knead out the air. I would say knead for approximately 5 minutes.
Then cut it in the size of pizza base of your choice.
To cook the pizza I flour a rolling pin and a surface and roll the pizza to the shape and thickness of my choice. This is one of the reasons I love to make my own. Then I add passata or my homemade tomato sauce, then whatever toppings I want.
Bake in a preheated oven of 250c. I find the first pizza takes 13 minutes but the second takes 10 max so just keep an eye on them as it depends on the size also. Enjoy!
Told You , It was easy.
Storing Extra Portion of your Homemade Pizza Dough
To store your extra portions, you can portion and wrap your dough in cling film or a ziplock bag. I’m trying to cut back on my single-use plastic usage so if you have a cost-effective replacement idea please comment below.
